This is a great invention, and I honestly don't know how I lived without it. I guess I didn't really live. Sure I cranked out a half gallon of ice cream in my twice-the-price White Mountain Ice cream machine, but with a lot more work and ice and rock salt and clean up. Now, we just keep it in the freezer and make whatever we feel like with not too much work in prep. My husband got this for me when they first appeared on the market and after having it for a couple years I just had to see my sister make safe desserts for her children on restricted diets. She's thrilled. I have one tip: if it's hot in the kitchen when you are making the Ice cream, or if your mix isn't chilled enough, you'll want to drape a thick towel over the whole unit while it's running so as to keep the cold in and hot out. it really makes a difference between a bit soupy and perfectly thick soft serve. and make sure it's totally dry with no ice or water left in it before freezing again, or it'll keep you from having the perfect dessert you were looking forward to. love the product, brilliant addition to the workhorse Kitchen Aide family.

The ice cream maker is ok,the product is difficult to attach to the mixer . IF you have the space in your freezer( great). I do like the fact that I can make my own ice cream with no artifical ingredients .

I bought this attachment when I bought my standmixer.

I love the fact that this is a quick and easy ice-cream maker and I've found it very easy to use. I do agree that it needs to have a pour spout to make it easier to pour the ice cream base into the freeze bowl for churning.

People should remember that it will only freeze to soft serve consistency. Further hardening happens once you freeze the ice cream product. Also, since this is homemade ice-cream, it doesn't have any additional ingredients that commercial ice cream contains that allows it to remain "softer." I usually take the ice cream out of the freezer a good 30 to 45 mins before serving to make it easier to scoop.

I also use a silicon slightly "scooped" spatula to remove the ice cream from the freezer bowl to put it in the container I use to freeze the ice cream. Because the bowl is so cold, there will be a skim layer of ice cream left on the inside of the bowl. It's best to leave it there and let it slough off as the bowl defrosts.
