Though, it can be a bit hard to clean since the blade, motor, encasing, etc are one unit and are not able to disassemble, therefore you can't just run it under water without risking damaging the motor. I would take another reviewer's advice and use a long handled stiff bristled brush to wipe out the leftover 'crumbs'.

Longevity will decide wheather this was a good puchase. But so far so good.

This little tiger can turn coffee beans into powder if you wish. It only does about 1/2 cup of beans at a time, but has them reduced to fine granules in 10 to 20 seconds and a powder in not much longer. My only complaint is that some of the ground coffee sticks to the sides or bottom (about 1 teaspoon of it). Tapping the unit helps but still leaves some. I usually give it a quick wipe with a clean finger to free up the coffee that has stuck. I expect it has to do with moisture in the coffee beans. There's a stainless steel bowl in the bottom and plastic sides so I don't know what more could be done about this problem. Of course, it's not much of a problem and I would guess that most compact units like this, if not all of them, probably have the problem.

Want the Best Kitchen Appliances?
Don't Miss Our Kitchen Appliance Reviews & Tips Section

I love this website! OK now that being said this was a great deal to me one that I couldn't pass up. The order came on time which is amazing in itself. The water is co clean. My only problem is that it doesn't last 2-3 mos. Mines only last 3weeks and my daughter and I most of the time don't even use it.

If it wasn't for the company telling that huge lie I would have giving it a 5star. Hopfully the company will work on this.

I have been using various Pur water filter products for about a decade and have always been pleased with the results, and now with the 6 pack on Amazon, my price has been cut in half! The water in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is generally good campared to many other communities, but what spurred me to use filters was what happens after the water leaves the treatment plant. A friend of mine works for the water-sewer department here. After his first week he went out and bought water filters once he saw what was in the pipes leading to the homes. A dirty little secret the treatment plants do not tell you is the number a leaks in the system allowing for ground water seepage, especially after a heavy rain. I can see it in my bath water. Because of this I am saving up to put a whole house filter on my intake pipe since our skin absorbs alot from showering and bathing. I will still use my faucet filters since I never waste money on dirty bottled water, I refill my own bottles, at a considerable discount of about 90%, and take them to work with me. Also, I water my most delicate indoor plants with filtered water and they seem to be healthier for it. The Pur 3 stage filter is definitely a bargain at these prices and well worth it considering the results.

My filters work great - I am happy with the product - the water has almost no taste after it goes through the filter. I am using my second filter in seven months and I am completed satisfied with quality of this product. If you are new to filtered water devices, my suggestion is not to turn up the water pressure too high when dispensing filtered water through your facets. My original 20 year old one-arm bandit kitchen facet had to be replaced because I believe a guest turned up the water pressure too high when filtering the water and the one arm bandit started leaking water at its base to its sides. Also, the instructions do not tell you how to take out the filter - only how to put in the new one. It was a little difficult to take out the first filter, but I would like to think that was not the norm. The PUR faucet water filter is a good buy - it's much faster and easier than refilling a pitcher over and over again.

Want the Best Kitchen Appliances?
Don't Miss Our Kitchen Appliance Reviews & Tips Section

I'll admit that I am a beginner cook, but I also believe it's essential to have the right tools from the start, something reliable and aesthetically pleasing in one's repertoire for the long haul. KitchenAid small appliances have been used in my family for years, and now that I'm on my own, I plan on continuing a long-standing tradition.

I love this mixer so much, it has it's own counter in my kitchen. Wonderful machine. So many ways to use it. I always wanted to make homemade bread but hated the idea of kneading the dough (too much work) and didn't want to buy a bread machine... this mixer does the job for me in 5 min. I'm buying one for my mom.

This mixer works as advertised.
I have made several batches of bread dough with positively no problems. The lighter work, like cookies and cakes, is absolutely a cinch.

I wish I had purchased this machine years ago. It is easy to use, easy to clean, and the results are excellent.

My next purchase will be the food/meat grinder and sausage stuffer. I'm looking forward to making fresh, flavorful sausage. I'll let you know how that works out in another review.

Diane Paul

Want the Best Kitchen Appliances?
Don't Miss Our Kitchen Appliance Reviews & Tips Section

AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker (Review)

As Consumer Reports said, good coffee depends largely on the beans, and not so much the coffee maker. However, I stumbled upon the aeropress and due to the high rating, decided to read the reviews. They were so convincing, I bought it. I love strong, smooth coffee. I just got it in the mail, and excitedly made my first cup. I have to say, it has not one trace of bitterness. It is very, very smooth. I'm so impressed! I am the only coffee drinker in my house, and I am a bit of a coffee snob - so this product is perfect for me. I really like the design of the product. It is easy to use and nothing like anything I've used before. It's small and compact. I've used the italian style stove top expresso maker in the past, but had the problem of the aluminum peeling inside of the chamber, and no matter what I tried, the coffee was bitter. I highly recommend the aeropress.

In my quest to find a great coffee maker without the expensive price tag, a friend recommended I try the AeroPress. I was amazed that such a simple gadget could produce such a good cup of coffee. The quality and grind of coffee beans used is important. I'm still experimenting with different coffee grinds in order to find out what suits my taste. The AeroPress is relatively simple to use. It makes a very concentrated brew of coffee which you can dilute with water to suit your taste. The instructions are very simple to follow. One slight difficulty I found was applying enough pressure to the plunger to expel the coffee. I was able to do it but had to push down with a forceful and steady pressure. Other than that I found it to be very simple to use. I'm still using my automatic coffee maker most mornings when I'm in a hurry and have to go to work, but when I have the time I don't mind grinding fresh beans and using the press. I would recommend it.

More trouble than it is worth. We used it several times and went back to our french press unit. Very hard to push the plunger down.

Want the Best Kitchen Appliances?
Don't Miss Our Kitchen Appliance Reviews & Tips Section

Presto 04821 Orville Redenbacher Hot Air Corn Popper (Review)

In less than 2-1/2 minutes you’ll have up to 18 cups--two large bowlfuls--of fluffy popcorn with virtually no unpopped kernels. And because the machine uses hot air instead of oil, the resulting snack is healthier and lower in calories. That’s not to say you can’t add butter; in fact, the 1/2-cup measuring cup on top of the popper doubles as a butter melter. Simply put in the desired amount of margarine or butter (room temperature is best), and it melts from the heat produced during the popping process. The clear plastic cover and cup, which must stay on during popping so the popped corn doesn’t fly all over the room, easily remove for hand cleaning with warm, soapy water. No other clean-up is required. While a few unpopped kernels spring out the chute as the machine begins to heats up, the chute does a good job of directing the popped corn into a bowl. The popper measures 14 by 9 by 6-1/2 inches, and is identical to Presto’s PopLite Hot Air Corn Popper except for color and logo. Presto covers the popper with a two-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

I love this popper because I don't have to add oil. I can have a large bowlful with "butter" spray on it, and not cheat on my diet. A sprinkle of parmesan cheese is delicious, too. It is also cheaper to make than microwave popcorn.

I love this product! Easy to use, easy to store. It's just 8 inches high and 4-3/4 inches in diameter, and its 3-cup bowl is ample for many chores in a family household and most chores in a one or two-person household. At 150 watts, the motor is powerful enough to chop or mince vegetables, fruits, herbs, cheese, nuts, chocolate, cooked meats, and bread. The power head has a soft grip for easy one-handed use. The rugged, plastic bowl; its slip-resistant base, which doubles as the bowl's lid for storing food; and the stainless-steel blade are all dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack

Lid of chopper won't stay on. Now I have chopper envy, since mine is manual.

We used this product from the time our baby was 5 months old. We've decided to make our own baby food - from apple sauce, pureed pears, peaches, plums to chopped chicken, pork and vegetables like spinach, carrots, peas, etc. It has worked wonders for us. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who decides not to feed jar food to their baby. I would stay away from the manual food mill sold at baby stores. It created more work as compared to this electric chopper.

PS. This makes excellent mashed potatoes. We use sweet potatoes too.
Bodum Chambord 12-Cup (6 US cups) Coffee Press (Review)

Bodum Chambord 12-Cup (6 US cups) Coffee Press

Average Customer Rating: 4.5

The Chambord is Bodum’s original coffee press design, which the company began to mass produce in 1982 after acquiring a small factory in Normandy where craftspeople made these presses by hand. Bodum takes great care to instill the same quality in craftsmanship, and the result, according to coffee purists, is a brewing machine that produces a taste and aroma superior to any electric coffeemaker. The secret is that the grounds are able to steep in boiling water for about 4 minutes before they are pressed with the plunger, producing a richer, full-bodied flavor. The glass carafe on this Chambord model holds a maximum of 48 ounces or 12 cups of brewed coffee or tea, making it a useful size for entertaining or for all-day-long drinkers. The chrome-plated brass frame and lid and stainless-steel plunger are durable and will hold up to years of brewing. For easy cleaning, the carafe and all its parts go right into the dishwasher. Replacement parts are available from the manufacturer. --Cristina Vaamonde
From the Manufacturer
When Bodum took over a small clarinet factory in Normandy in 1982, it was not because of the fine orchestra clarinets they were producing. In addition to musical instruments, the factory also produced the coffee of a relatively unknown brewer called "The Chambord." Bodum combined the skills of these Normandy craftspeople with modern production. The result was a unique culinary tool, affordable to the many who loved the taste of what we now know as French press coffee.
Thanks to Bodum, and thanks to the increasing need for better coffee, the French press coffeemaker has become one of the most popular in the world. Yet the design has not strayed a bit from the original drawings, and Bodum still makes the Chambord with the same painstaking care and knowledge they gained from those Normandy craftspeople years ago. The ease of brewing and the delicious smell and taste of French-roasted dark coffee have remained unchanged.

Awards and Accolades

In 2004 the Bodum Chambord coffee press received the American Culinary Institute's award for best French press coffeemaker.
The American Culinary Institute judges food preparation products such as mixers, waffle makers, and electric teakettles. These products are judged on criteria important to consumers such as ease of use, safety, and the quality of the food produced. The institute also judges food preparation products used in restaurants and hotels, including institutional mixers, large-volume coffee machines, and food slicers.
Instructions for Use

  1. Place pot on a dry, flat, nonslip surface. Hold handle firmly, then pull the plunger straight up and out of the pot.
2. For each 1.25-deciliter/4-ounce cup, put 1 rounded tablespoon or 1 Bodum scoop of coarse-ground coffee into the pot.

Caution: Use only coarse-ground coffee. Fine grind can clog the filter and create high pressure. Place coffeemaker on a heatproof, nonslip surface.
3. Pour hot (not boiling) water into the pot. Leave a minimum of 2.5 centimeters/1 inch of space at the top. Stir the brew with a plastic spoon.

Caution: Metal spoons can scratch or chip the glass beaker and cause breakage.
4. Place the plunger unit on top of the pot. Turn lid to close off the pour spout opening. (Does not apply to the Brazil models.) Do not press down. Let the coffee brew for at least 4 minutes.
5. Hold the pot handle firmly, with the spout turned away from you, then using just the weight of your hand, apply slight pressure on top of the knob to lower the plunger straight down into the pot. Lowering the plunger slowly with minimal pressure produces best results. If the filter clogs or it becomes difficult to push down the plunger you should remove the plunger from the pot, stir the brew, and then slowly plunge again.

WARNING: Using excessive force can cause scalding liquid to shoot out of the pot.
6. Turn the lid to open the pour spout and then pour coffee.
7. Unscrew the filter assembly and clean the plunger unit after each use. All parts are dishwasher-safe.

Safety Instructions

Not for stovetop use.
Check glass beaker for scratches, cracks, or chips. Do not use a pot that is scratched, chipped, or cracked. Install a replacement beaker before using the pot again.
Keep children away while using. Hot water is a hazard to small children!
Do not allow children to use this coffeemaker.
Scald Hazard

Excessive plunging force can cause scalding hot liquid to shoot out of pot.
Do not plunge with force.
Turn lid to close spout.
Use only coarse-ground coffee.

Company History

In 1944 Peter Bodum, the father of today's owner, Joergen Bodum, started Bodum in Copenhagen. Times were difficult at the end of World War II; there was hardly any trade and people were out of work. Peter Bodum managed to wholesale a very small variety of housewares products by Danish manufacturers.
After the war Peter Bodum got an import license for kitchen and tabletop products; he traveled all over Europe and ended up importing kitchen and housewares to Denmark. As in the rest of Europe in those days, a lack of products in Denmark meant a market existed for almost anything to be sold. He specialized in glassware from Eastern Europe.
In the '50s Peter Bodum started developing his own products. He collaborated with the Danish architect Kaas Klaeson for a range of coffeemakers. At the time, industrial-design-type kitchen products were very rare. The first Bodum product to hit the market in 1958 was the Santos coffeemaker--based on a vacuum coffee brewing system. It became an instant sensation not only in Denmark but in all of Europe. Bodum still produces the original Santos design to this very day.
Bodum grew steadily during the '60s, but sadly, in 1967, at the age of only 57, Peter Bodum passed away. His wife managed the company until 1974, when she offered her 26-year-old son Joergen to join her in the management of the company. Joergen quickly brought on board Carsten Joergensen--then a teacher at the Danish School of Art in Copenhagen--and soon put him in charge of overall design for Bodum, including everything from products to corporate design, exhibitions, shops, buildings, catalogs, and advertising. It turned out to be a very long and fruitful collaboration. The two men began to fulfill Bodum's credo--"good design doesn't have to be expensive"--in lots of different ways.
In 1974 the first fruit of Joergen and Carsten's collaboration was introduced: the French coffee press Bistro. It was also the first incorporation of the new Bodum design language--beautiful simplicity and excellent materials for everyday life. Many more variations of coffee presses followed. Since 1974, Bodum has produced over 50 million French presses, taken the leap from "coffee" to "kitchen," and developed and produced a large variety of beautiful household and tabletop designs.
In 1979, when he took over the company, Joergen Bodum decided to move to Switzerland in order to be more centrally located in Europe. He chose the Lucerne area, where Bodum's head office has been located since the early '80s.
In 1980 Bodum Switzerland and its design unit, Pi-Design, were founded. Then, in 1986, the opening of Bodum's first shop in London marked another milestone in the Bodum history. It was designed not only to be the perfect showcase for the large variety of Bodum products but to embody an even stronger presentation of Bodum as an international brand. Many more shops in many more cities all over the world followed: Paris, Copenhagen, Zurich, Lucerne, Tokyo, New York, Dallas, Okinawa, Auckland, and many more. To this day there are 52 Bodum stores worldwide.
With more and more of its own stores in place, Bodum continued broadening its collection of beautifully designed everyday life products--from kitchen to home. Today Bodum offers its customers everything from the latest coffee- and tea-making products to tabletop, kitchen, storage, textiles, bathroom, and home office products. Some stores also have a café where Bodum's own selection of coffees and teas are served.
The Bodum Group is, and always has been, a 100 percent family-owned business. Today the company operates in 14 different countries with over 700 employees worldwide. Bodum has holding companies in Denmark and Switzerland as well as 12 sales companies, 3 production companies, and a design company called Bodum Design Group, located in Switzerland.

Pros: Makes great coffee. The filter effectively keeps the grounds out of the coffee to be consumed. The filter easily disassembles for cleaning. The design of the lid is thoughtful as well and like some pitchers with lids, has a slosh resistant design. Very light and easy pouring.

Cons: The glass beaker is too tall to be washed without careful positioning in some dishwashers, especially if still installed in the metal handle/frame. The frame can be a bit sticky to remove from the beaker. I would not recommend this for tea as while it will effectively filter out the loose tea leaves, it will not stop them from over steeping. For tea I would recommend a dedicated tea press, such as this one from their Kenya line. [[ASIN:B000YYODQY Bodum New Kenya Medium Tea Press, Black, 1.0 l, 34 oz.]]

It works very well. Reminds me of travelling in Europe and Africa. Makes fantastic coffee, although if you want speed, stick to a more traditional coffee maker.

I bought this to brew my yerba mate in after I gave up coffee. I love it. It's easy to use and it makes a really strong cup of tea, so strong that I only use half as much loose tea as they say to use. So I'm happy, looks like my yerba mate is going to last a lot longer with this french press. I've only had a week so far, but so far so good. It arrived in perfect condition. It's easy to use and easy to clean. I would buy it again if I had it to do over again.

Want the Best Kitchen Appliances?
Don't Miss Our Kitchen Appliance Reviews & Tips Section

The filter reduces impurities and harmful substances from tap water and holds approximately 40 liquid ounces. The slim pitcher fits neatly into many refrigerator doors, enabling users to maximize shelf space.
Certified by the National Sanitation Foundation International, Brita water filters contain a mesh screen to catch sediment and particles as tap water flows through into the pitcher’s basin. Brita pitchers employ an ion exchange resin with activated carbon granules to draw mercury, zinc, copper and cadmium from tap water, trapping these harmful elements inside the filter. Brita filters eradicate up to 98 percent of the lead found in tap water while significantly reducing other impurities and dangerous bacteria including cryptosporidium, giardia, and benzene. Additionally, the odor and flavor of chlorine are removed from drinking water. Brita filters should be replaced every 40 gallons or after two months of use. Replacement filters can be purchased separately. Wash the Slim Pitcher by hand in lukewarm water with a mild detergent. Brita offers a limited 90-day warranty on pitchers in the event of manufacturer defects. The pitcher weighs two pounds upon shipping. --Jessica Reuling

First of all, the water in our town is terrible.
Bonjour Hugo Cappuccino Set (Review)

      Bonjour Hugo Cappuccino Set

Average Customer Rating: 3.5

Now you can make your own cappuccino or latte without an expensive espresso maker. This set includes a six-cup French press, which many aficionados swear makes the best tasting coffee, along with a battery-powered turbo frother that whips milk into foamy froth. Bonjour's Hugo carafe is made of unbreakable polycarbonate, and comes with a removable, rubberized base, comfort-grip handle, and plastic frame. The patented filter in the lid reduces fine sediment sometimes found in the bottom of a cup of coffee made by the French press method. The stainless-steel plunger, lid, frame, and carafe are dishwasher-safe; with the metal parts removed, the Hugo is microwave-safe.
The Hugo six-cup carafe makes about 24 ounces of coffee, which is more like three cups for most coffee drinkers. Sleek and contemporary, the hand-held frother features a white handle with black cap that unscrews for battery replacement, and a stainless-steel wand and coil. Heating milk before frothing can help increase the foam. Batteries are not included, and the frother wand should be washed by hand. --Ann Bieri
What's in the Box
French press coffee maker; battery-powered milk frother. 2 items total.

My husband bought this press for me. The coffee it makes is excellent, espcially if you like strong coffee. The filter at the spout is a great touch and one of the reasons I chose this brand. This is the easiest and most flavorful way to make coffee. I have even used the store bought coffees in it and it works great.

The frother is a nice touch. It froths even better than the frother on our espresso maker, and is easier to use. I accidently over whipped some heavy whipping cream too much one time and made cool whip, which was great on top of the cappucinos. All in all it is a great product, really the only complaint is that for two people it is a little small, but is so easy to use that we can always make more if we need it.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone, especially anyone who is looking for a change from drip coffee makers. The coffee tastes better and the clean up is a snap.

I purchased this press for camping, and was initially happy with the performance. However, after only a few uses and only hand-washing, the filter started falling apart. The gasket wouldn't stay on, the screen fell out, and eventually the whole assembly fell off of the push-stem. We now have the Bodum 8-cup Stainless Thermal Press Pot and could not be happier with it. It's really worth spending a little extra to get something that lasts.

I purchased this cute little -- 3 cup -- coffee press a couple of years ago because I make coffee only occasionally. It did make good coffee for a while and then, after several months of intermittent use, coffee grounds began creeping into the coffee. Soon it became evident why: the filter was falling apart. Rather than the sturdy one piece metal and mesh that the Bodum coffee press uses, Bonjour uses plastic, fabric mesh and a silicon gasket. Once the gasket stretches out it will not stay on filter...and I always washed the filter by hand. The plastic container has also been a disappointment. As with most plastic washed in a dishwasher, it has become cloudy and dull looking. Even the spout of the Bonjour is so shallow that pouring a cup of coffee without dripping is impossible. Bottom line: it's a throw-away coffee press. If you like coffee prepared in a press, shop for something better and not that much more expensive.

Want the Best Kitchen Appliances?
Don't Miss Our Kitchen Appliance Reviews & Tips Section

It is so convienent to make coffee, Tea and Hot Coco.

I love this coffee machine! We love picking out different flavored and regular coffee without having to brew a whole pot. The reservoir is bigger than the other models and it makes the coffee strong even if you are brewing the travel size - the other models do not do this. I did not buy mine from Amazon but I am sure that the warranty is the same... My old one started leaking and wasn't working. I called the place where I had ordered it from and they sent me a new one right away! Now all of my friends have them. It is the best!

I recently moved from working in an office to working at home. One of the biggest challenges with this transition was my morning coffee fix. Usually, I would make one or two pots of coffee and the whole office would drink it all. Once I started working by myself, I found that I would make a pot of coffee and nearly finish the whole thing. Not really a healthy choice.

So I started looking for once-cup alternatives and found the Keurig line of k-cup machines. I read the reviews and bought the B70. It's very nice and brews excellent coffee quickly. The selection of coffee is great at amazon, but in a pinch you can go to Target and pick-up some Green Mountain variety. To be honest though, I buy mostly from Amazon because you get double the cups for the same price as you would in the store. Anyway, I find that I make one or two cups every morning and that's enough for my morning fix.

The only thing that would keep this from getting a five star is that fact that it really vibrates when it makes the coffee. It rattles the whole counter top and anything on it. If they could add some kind of vibration insulating base that would be great.

Otherwise it's a fantastic coffee maker.

Want the Best Kitchen Appliances?
Don't Miss Our Kitchen Appliance Reviews & Tips Section
