Pur 2 Stage Water Dispenser #DS-1800Z (Review)

Pur 2 Stage Water Dispenser #DS-1800Z

Average Customer Rating: 4.5

The filter effectively eliminates the chlorine flavor but that's about it. The metallic taste remains. If you have the means to measure the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), you will see that the water filtered by the PUR filter does not remove any ions of metals...it has the same TDS reading as tap water. I didn't expect much from a filter this affordable, so I suppose it's fine.

A critical part of eating healthily is drinking enough fresh water every day. For environmental reasons you should NOT be drinking bottled water! Those bottles - even if you recycle them - leave a huge carbon footstep. Instead, get a filter!

We have well water, which we have tested for arsenic and other substances. It is reasonably healthy but, like all water in modern times, could stand to be a bit cleaner. We have tried a variety of Brita filters, under-sink filters, in-fridge filters and so on over the years. The problem is normally the flow rate. For example, our fridge has a built in filter on its water spout in the door. The water comes out so slowly that you could stand there for over a full minute waiting for your glass to fill.

So when we spotted this unit many months ago, we grabbed one. We have loved it ever since!

The great benefit with this large unit is you sit in on the counter right next to your fridge. When it runs low, you just pull the flexible sink spigot over and blast more water into it. Quick, easy, no lifting. When you want some water, you just open up the filter's spigot and the water comes out at a nice high rate. This means even filling up a whole pitcher for iced tea is quick and easy. The spigot even has a "stay on" position so it's easy to fill up large containers.

Yes, you can certainly keep this IN your fridge too if you want. I personally don't like ice-cold water, I get cold very easily and if I drink fridge water I start shivering. Also, it would take up a huge amount of space in your fridge. However, if you enjoy cold water or have space to spare in your fridge, that is certainly an option for you.

Does this filter out 100% of all known problems past, present and future? Probably not. But, like most filters out there on the market, it definitely pulls out enough problems to make it worth using. If you're drinking bottled water right now, this is certainly MUCH much better than that option!! The amount of waste and carbon put into creating those plastic bottles is just phenomenal - never mind the gas and exhaust used up in trucking the bottles across the country to your store. You should always eat local and fresh as much as possible for those reasons. You can't get much more local and fresh than out of your own faucet!

Highly recommended for pretty much everybody. We should ALL drink more water every day, and we should all ensure that our water is as clean as it can be. This unit helps with both.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006MQCA4/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title
2 Stage Water Pur Dispenser. Item is larger than I had expected. I can put one gallon in the top and wait until it's been all filtered then fill the top up a second time to use as a reservoir. It works great. At one time we had to fill our small contaiiners up two to three times a day but now only once to every other day fill up on this one. Working smarter not harder. The customer service personnel was very helpful using AMAZON. My old address was still in the system so the item naturally was shipped there and I couldn't get to the change address section so customer service made sure that it arrived at my new home. That's great support for your customers. I use it for making pizza dough, and whole grain breads.
My biggest dissapointment is that the printed lettering came off when I spilled some oil on the machine. Now I have to remember which number is the setting I want! Am I setting it for dough or bread? (where is that manual? At least the menu settings are there.)

This may be an okay bread machine, I don't really know. It arrived today and the first thing I noticed is that the bread machine box was packed upside down inside the Amazon shipping box. The second thing I noticed was that the viewing window on top was shattered. I figured that wasn't too surprising since the machine had been traveling around upside down and that inside box was in somewhat poor condition. THEN, I noticed a print out from the amazon returns center from the LAST person this machine was sent to, and they listed as the reason for the return "the viewing window is shattered". So apparently it wasn't shattered from being shipped upside down, at least not THIS time.

It would be nice if they actually refurbished the refurbished models, or at least opened the box between customers.

I noticed there was another review from someone that said there was actually bread or dough residue and greasy fingerprints on their machine when it arrived...I am totally skeeved out about getting a refurbished model now! I was trying to decide between a Zojirushi bread maker or this one...since I love my Zojirushi rice maker, I guess I should pay the extra money and get the Zojirushi bread maker. A brand new one.

This is our third and best bread machine. The texture of the bread is not as coarse and the loaf is more like a real loaf, not a chimney! My only problem is pressing the buttons in the right order--the layout is counterintuitive to me. The first time I used the machine, I had to unplug it and wait until the preprogrammed cycle expired.

Want the Best Kitchen Appliances?
Don't Miss Our Kitchen Appliance Reviews & Tips Section

Though, it can be a bit hard to clean since the blade, motor, encasing, etc are one unit and are not able to disassemble, therefore you can't just run it under water without risking damaging the motor. I would take another reviewer's advice and use a long handled stiff bristled brush to wipe out the leftover 'crumbs'.

Longevity will decide wheather this was a good puchase. But so far so good.

This little tiger can turn coffee beans into powder if you wish. It only does about 1/2 cup of beans at a time, but has them reduced to fine granules in 10 to 20 seconds and a powder in not much longer. My only complaint is that some of the ground coffee sticks to the sides or bottom (about 1 teaspoon of it). Tapping the unit helps but still leaves some. I usually give it a quick wipe with a clean finger to free up the coffee that has stuck. I expect it has to do with moisture in the coffee beans. There's a stainless steel bowl in the bottom and plastic sides so I don't know what more could be done about this problem. Of course, it's not much of a problem and I would guess that most compact units like this, if not all of them, probably have the problem.

Want the Best Kitchen Appliances?
Don't Miss Our Kitchen Appliance Reviews & Tips Section

I love this website! OK now that being said this was a great deal to me one that I couldn't pass up. The order came on time which is amazing in itself. The water is co clean. My only problem is that it doesn't last 2-3 mos. Mines only last 3weeks and my daughter and I most of the time don't even use it.

If it wasn't for the company telling that huge lie I would have giving it a 5star. Hopfully the company will work on this.

I have been using various Pur water filter products for about a decade and have always been pleased with the results, and now with the 6 pack on Amazon, my price has been cut in half! The water in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is generally good campared to many other communities, but what spurred me to use filters was what happens after the water leaves the treatment plant. A friend of mine works for the water-sewer department here. After his first week he went out and bought water filters once he saw what was in the pipes leading to the homes. A dirty little secret the treatment plants do not tell you is the number a leaks in the system allowing for ground water seepage, especially after a heavy rain. I can see it in my bath water. Because of this I am saving up to put a whole house filter on my intake pipe since our skin absorbs alot from showering and bathing. I will still use my faucet filters since I never waste money on dirty bottled water, I refill my own bottles, at a considerable discount of about 90%, and take them to work with me. Also, I water my most delicate indoor plants with filtered water and they seem to be healthier for it. The Pur 3 stage filter is definitely a bargain at these prices and well worth it considering the results.

My filters work great - I am happy with the product - the water has almost no taste after it goes through the filter. I am using my second filter in seven months and I am completed satisfied with quality of this product. If you are new to filtered water devices, my suggestion is not to turn up the water pressure too high when dispensing filtered water through your facets. My original 20 year old one-arm bandit kitchen facet had to be replaced because I believe a guest turned up the water pressure too high when filtering the water and the one arm bandit started leaking water at its base to its sides. Also, the instructions do not tell you how to take out the filter - only how to put in the new one. It was a little difficult to take out the first filter, but I would like to think that was not the norm. The PUR faucet water filter is a good buy - it's much faster and easier than refilling a pitcher over and over again.

Want the Best Kitchen Appliances?
Don't Miss Our Kitchen Appliance Reviews & Tips Section

It's just 8 inches high and 4-3/4 inches in diameter, and its 3-cup bowl is ample for many chores in a family household and most chores in a one or two-person household. At 150 watts, the motor is powerful enough to chop or mince vegetables, fruits, herbs, cheese, nuts, chocolate, cooked meats, and bread. The power head has a soft grip for easy one-handed use. The rugged, plastic bowl; its slip-resistant base, which doubles as the bowl's lid for storing food; and the stainless-steel blade are all dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack

I've had this item for years. I only bought a new one because I cracked the bowl and, even though the motor is still strong and everything else is working properly, I was afraid the crack would hold contamination. I love this item and will buy another one 20 years from now.

The chopper is great and very handy. My only problem with it is that the top is difficult to clean. The top is not washable (as it has the electronics in it) so you have to manually wipe it down and clean it out (as stuff gets stuck in the mechanism up there). I wish it was more separate. Other than that it chops well

I purchased this based on all the rave reviews. However, when I received it, I didn't realize how heavy the top was- a bit inconvenient to unload the top each time. I'll admit that I am a beginner cook, but I also believe it's essential to have the right tools from the start, something reliable and aesthetically pleasing in one's repertoire for the long haul. KitchenAid small appliances have been used in my family for years, and now that I'm on my own, I plan on continuing a long-standing tradition.

I love this mixer so much, it has it's own counter in my kitchen. Wonderful machine. So many ways to use it. I always wanted to make homemade bread but hated the idea of kneading the dough (too much work) and didn't want to buy a bread machine... this mixer does the job for me in 5 min. I'm buying one for my mom.

This mixer works as advertised.
I have made several batches of bread dough with positively no problems. The lighter work, like cookies and cakes, is absolutely a cinch.

I wish I had purchased this machine years ago. It is easy to use, easy to clean, and the results are excellent.

My next purchase will be the food/meat grinder and sausage stuffer. I'm looking forward to making fresh, flavorful sausage. I'll let you know how that works out in another review.

Diane Paul

Want the Best Kitchen Appliances?
Don't Miss Our Kitchen Appliance Reviews & Tips Section

It has worked well for everything from graham cracker crusts to cole slaw and everything in between. One couldn't ask for much more.

The only reason I docked it a star is that the small container ,about 4 cups, has very sloped sides. This causes larger pieces to stay on the sides of the container and not fall back to be chopped finer. Requires more scraping down of the sides.

I love the machine and wouldn't think of going without it.

I love this food processor. In the past I had two different Cuisinart models, and the bowls and lids would invariably crack and need to be replaced. Also, the feed tubes were difficult to clean. I would call repeatedly to Cuisinart for help, but no one answered for months! So the Kitchenaid is a vast improvement, with the feed tube easier to clean, and the bowl feels more substantial. It took a while to become accustomed to the blade's not stopping immediately, but that is minor. I like having the mini-bowl; it's like having two processors in one. I can make a crumb topping first and then the coffee cake below. My one complaint is that the top circle covering on the plastic dough blade has broken off with just normal use, which is disappointing. Now the ingredients fall through the holes on the stem of the blade, since there is no covering. The machine is 1 1/2 years old. The company says to buy a new blade....

Great buy. What a bargain. I love this machine and use it daily. I especially like the small bowl for things that do not require the big one.

Want the Best Kitchen Appliances?
Don't Miss Our Kitchen Appliance Reviews & Tips Section

AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker (Review)

      AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker

Average Customer Rating: 5.0

I was only looking for a small drip coffee maker, and almost purchased the Black and Decker single cup brewer. As Consumer Reports said, good coffee depends largely on the beans, and not so much the coffee maker. However, I stumbled upon the aeropress and due to the high rating, decided to read the reviews. They were so convincing, I bought it. I love strong, smooth coffee. I just got it in the mail, and excitedly made my first cup. I have to say, it has not one trace of bitterness. It is very, very smooth. I'm so impressed! I am the only coffee drinker in my house, and I am a bit of a coffee snob - so this product is perfect for me. I really like the design of the product. It is easy to use and nothing like anything I've used before. It's small and compact. I've used the italian style stove top expresso maker in the past, but had the problem of the aluminum peeling inside of the chamber, and no matter what I tried, the coffee was bitter. I highly recommend the aeropress.

In my quest to find a great coffee maker without the expensive price tag, a friend recommended I try the AeroPress. I was amazed that such a simple gadget could produce such a good cup of coffee. The quality and grind of coffee beans used is important. I'm still experimenting with different coffee grinds in order to find out what suits my taste. The AeroPress is relatively simple to use. It makes a very concentrated brew of coffee which you can dilute with water to suit your taste. The instructions are very simple to follow. One slight difficulty I found was applying enough pressure to the plunger to expel the coffee. I was able to do it but had to push down with a forceful and steady pressure. Other than that I found it to be very simple to use. I'm still using my automatic coffee maker most mornings when I'm in a hurry and have to go to work, but when I have the time I don't mind grinding fresh beans and using the press. I would recommend it.

More trouble than it is worth. We used it several times and went back to our french press unit. Very hard to push the plunger down.

Want the Best Kitchen Appliances?
Don't Miss Our Kitchen Appliance Reviews & Tips Section

It did worth to find the warranty and get a refund, So I just threw it away.

Works fine, but hey, its just a hot plate. There's not a lot to it. I use it for my pressure cooker, which doesn't work on my smooth top stove. At 1000 watts, its hot enough to do the job.
Not the most stylish on the market, but for thirteen bucks and free shipping ( Amazon ), I'm happy.

Needed an extra burner around the holidays.
Presto 04821 Orville Redenbacher Hot Air Corn Popper (Review)

Presto 04821 Orville Redenbacher Hot Air Corn Popper

Average Customer Rating: 4.0

Plug in the Orville Redenbacher Hot Air Corn Popper and the party begins. In less than 2-1/2 minutes you’ll have up to 18 cups--two large bowlfuls--of fluffy popcorn with virtually no unpopped kernels. And because the machine uses hot air instead of oil, the resulting snack is healthier and lower in calories. That’s not to say you can’t add butter; in fact, the 1/2-cup measuring cup on top of the popper doubles as a butter melter. Simply put in the desired amount of margarine or butter (room temperature is best), and it melts from the heat produced during the popping process. The clear plastic cover and cup, which must stay on during popping so the popped corn doesn’t fly all over the room, easily remove for hand cleaning with warm, soapy water. No other clean-up is required. While a few unpopped kernels spring out the chute as the machine begins to heats up, the chute does a good job of directing the popped corn into a bowl. The popper measures 14 by 9 by 6-1/2 inches, and is identical to Presto’s PopLite Hot Air Corn Popper except for color and logo. Presto covers the popper with a two-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

I love this popper because I don't have to add oil. I can have a large bowlful with "butter" spray on it, and not cheat on my diet. A sprinkle of parmesan cheese is delicious, too. It is also cheaper to make than microwave popcorn.

I love this product! Easy to use, easy to store.
